Privacy Policy

rabbithol is built local-first. Your research trails stay on your device unless you explicitly use a feature that contacts an external service, as described below.
Who we are
rabbithol is a Chrome extension that maps tab relationships into visual research trails. This policy covers the extension and the website at rabbithol.space.
Data stored on your device
When tracking is enabled, the extension records locally in Chrome storage:
- Tab URLs, page titles, and domains you visit
- Parent-child relationships between tabs (which tab opened which)
- Timestamps for visits and sessions
- Kits you create (bundled URL lists)
- Your license key and activation state
- Onboarding and extension preferences
This data is not uploaded to rabbithol servers. We do not operate a cloud sync or user accounts service for trail data.
Data sent to third parties
The extension may contact external services only in these cases:
-
Polar (license validation) When you activate or
refresh your license, the extension sends your license key,
organization ID, and device activation label to
Polar
(
api.polar.sh) to verify your subscription. Polar processes payments and emails your license key; their privacy policy applies to checkout and billing data. - Deep search (beta) When you run a deep search, the extension may fetch page content from URLs in your recent history, or briefly open tabs in the background to read visible text on the page. That content is used only to find matches and is not stored long-term by rabbithol.
- Favicons The dashboard may request favicon images from sites you visited (standard browser requests to those domains).
Payments
Purchases are handled by Polar. We do not collect or store your card details. You receive a license key by email after checkout. No rabbithol account is required.
Website
The marketing site is static. We do not use analytics cookies on rabbithol.space at this time. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts when you visit the site.
Permissions
The Chrome extension requests:
- tabs to detect tab open relationships and URLs
- storage to save trails and settings locally
- scripting for deep search page text extraction
- alarms to periodically re-validate your license
- host access to read pages during deep search and open kit URLs
Data retention and deletion
Trail data remains in your browser until you uninstall the extension, clear extension storage, or remove your license. You can turn tracking off at any time from the extension popup. Removing your license from the extension deletes the stored key but not your trail history.
Children
rabbithol is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product changes. The date at the top will be revised when we do.
